What vowels do
Short-vowel signs display sounds that advanced readers reconstruct from vocabulary, word form, and context. They are support, not weakness.
Stage 1: accuracy
Practice letter connections, short vowels, sukun, shadda, and lengthening. Read slowly aloud with corrective feedback.
Stage 2: frequent patterns
Recognize common particles and word forms without spelling them out. Build a small vocabulary from actual reading.
Stage 3: partial vocalization
Hide selected vowels or use texts marking only difficult places. Predict first, then verify.
Stage 4: context
Before pronouncing, consider the word's possible function and sentence coherence. Error shows which clue was missed.
Parallel reading
Read the same short passage vocalized and then unvocalized. Do not change vocabulary and graphic difficulty at once.
An error notebook
Classify errors by letter, shadda, length, vocabulary, ending, or structure. Practice the dominant category.
A durable rhythm
Fifteen corrected minutes daily beats a rare long session. Have religious recitation corrected by a competent reader.
