Hadith sciences are the rules developed by scholars to study what was transmitted from the Prophet ﷺ. They examine both the chain of transmission and the wording of the report.

The isnad is the chain of narrators, while the matn is the text of the hadith. Studying both helps assess the strength of a report and the conditions in which it was transmitted.

This framework produced classifications such as authentic, good and weak, as well as disciplines devoted to narrator evaluation and hidden defects in reports.

A beginner should start with an accessible introduction and commentary, then move toward classical texts under the guidance of a qualified teacher.
